Devices

Students are still allowed to bring their own devices to school. But these devices are only to be out during instruction when permitted by the teacher. They are not permitted to be used at any other time throughout the school day.

Discipline

We still have our normal behavior steps for students receiving discipline referrals such as lunch detention and in school suspension. New for this 2015-2016 school year we will be having after school detention on Monday through Thursdays 3:35-4:30.

Morning Drop-Off

Parents,
Please wait in the car drop off line in the mornings to drop off your child. Because of bus arrivals it is not permissible to park in the teacher parking lot and walk across the buses. The safety of your child is our priority.

WISD Moves to Quarter Grading System and Electronic Grade Reports

Willis, TX, Aug. 17, 2015 – Willis ISD is moving from a six week to a quarter, or approximately nine week grading system, beginning with the 2015-2016 school year. In addition all grade reports will be delivered electronically. Parents will access grades, progress reports, attendance, report cards and more online through parent portal or the Willis ISD mobile app.

WISD’s Zapata Named Region VI Elementary Teacher of the Year

Willis, TX, Aug. 10, 2015 – A. R. Turner first-grade teacher Laura Zapata was named the Region VI Elementary Teacher of the Year at the service center’s annual ceremony last week. Nominees came from across the Region VI service area which comprises 57 school districts.

In June, Zapata took the Elementary Teacher of the Year honors for Willis ISD. The 15-year veteran educator always starts her day by talking to the children in her class and making them feel connected.

Context Scoot

Mrs. Gentry's 5th grade class paired up to "scoot" around the room at the different cards laid out for them. In the 1 minute time allotted they had to read the task card and determine the meaning of the unknown word using just their context clues.

Cold weather can't stop us.

With the temperature way below what we are used to here in Texas, our kids and teachers have had to come up with alternate activities to keep active and warm during PE/Recess. Coach Fossmo teaches the kids the basics of floor hockey. The kids enjoyed learning the game and having fun with friends.
