Mrs. Thomas is currently teaching in her 32nd year in Willis ISD. The first 14 years were spent in Special Education programs, the next 15 years in Second Grade and she is currently in her second year teaching First Grade. Mrs. Thomas holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Sam Houston State University with additional certifications and endorsements in Kindergarten, ESL, Early Childhood-Handicapped, Special Education, Vocational Home Economics, and Educational Diagnostician.
Awards and recognition received include Educator of the Year for her elementary campus and Cscope Educator of the Year for Region 6. She served as a Texas Regional Collaborative Math Teacher Mentor (TRC-MTM), Trainer of Teachers for Math at the district level, Superintendent's Teacher Advisory Council member, DEIC and CEIC member, grade level team leader, textbook selection committee member, and other committees related to her role in the district and on her campus. Mrs. Thomas recently completed 4 years as the Region 6 Director for the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE). She holds an office in the Willis ATPE local chapter which was awarded 2011 ATPE Local Unit of the Year.
She and her husband, James have been married 41 years and have four children and eight grandchildren. Chosen family activities include going camping, fishing, playing horseshoes, corn bag toss and washers, or just sitting and visiting.
