The safety and security of our students is our number one priority. Willis ISD reminds drivers that within school zones, all drivers are prohibited from texting and using handheld devices while operating a motor vehicle.

1st grade Interviews local experts

Students in Mrs. Zapata's 1st grade class had the opportunity to interview local experts. Ray (a flight attendant with United Airlines) came up for this special interview. Students researched and wrote down his answers to their questions. and will write a research paper on his job.

My American Hero Contest

The annual "My American Hero" essay contest was judged this week. Turner 3rd grade students received recognition from the Lake Conroe Area republican Women's group for their writing skills. Awards were given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place along with numerous Honorable Mentions. The top 3 will attend a special luncheon on March 2, 2017 along with their family, teacher and administrator in their honor. We are very proud of all of our students and their accomplishments.

School Counselor's Week

February 6-10 is National School Counseling Week, and Willis ISD is celebrating the unique contribution our counselors make to our students and schools. School Counselors implement comprehensive programs focusing on student abilities, strengths, interests and talents; and are vital to the education of all students. Willis ISD's school counselors will be recognized at the Board of Trustee meeting Wed., Feb. 8 at 6 p.m.

Operation Graduation Stay & Play

The WHS Class of 2017 are hosting a Stay & Play on Friday, February 10th from dismissal - 6:30PM. Students will enjoy fun activities, a pizza dinner and a movie. Money raised will benefit "Operation Graduation 2017". Cost is just $20/student.

Earth, Sun & Moon

Mrs. Hernandez's 5th grade class recently did a class project on the Earth, sun and moon. Students researched extensively and created their 3D projects to share with the class.

Family Reading Night 2017

On Tuesday, January 24th A.R. Turner hosted our 2017 Family Reading Night. Special guest author, Kaye Henry was here to read her book, Willie The Pencil Neck Pooch. Varsity athletes from WHS were on campus to interact and read with students. There were many activities hosted throughout the campus including: Readers' Theater, Poetry Slam, Read Alouds, Accelerated Reader , grade-level reading games as well as a book exchange. This special event was not only to promote a love of reading but allow students to show parents great, innovative ways our teachers make learning fun and exciting.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Show

Walking into the gym at CC Hardy Elementary School Jan. 13 gave students and viewers a lot to look at. Willis ISD held a districtwide art show for the School Art Program, hosted by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for more than 50 years.
